<description>Contributions to the mammal fauna of Bitlis Province, Turkey
Toyran, Kubilay; Adızel, Özdemir
The aim of study is to identify mammal species in the area and determine factors threatening these species. Field studies were conducted within different seasons (spring, summer, fall, winter) between 2011-2018 to identify mammal species in Bitlis province. As a result of field studies, totally 24 species belonging to orders Eulipotyphla, Chiroptera, Lagomorpha, Rodentia, Carnivora and Artiodactyla were identified. Microtus schidlovskii and Mus macedonicus are the new records for Bitlis province.

<title>Determination of grave locations with high resolution Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) in War Cemeteries: Sample study of Biga (Çanakkale) War</title>

<description>Determination of grave locations with high resolution Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) in War Cemeteries: Sample study of Biga (Çanakkale) War
Yalçınera, Cahit Çağlar; Kurban, Yunus Can
The most important turning point in Turkish history of the Çanakkale War, known in English as the Dardanelles Campaign, the Battle of Gallipoli, or the Battle of Çanakkale, involves many omissions in terms of historical records due to the situation facing the country at the time and the threats from both internal and external enemies. Though there is very valuable information like notes and maps left by officers in the Ottoman army (Col. Şevki Paşa etc.), due to the intense severity of the war much important information has not been transferred directly to the present day. Most probably, one of the areas with greatest omissions is the location of war grave sites (martyr’s cemeteries). The main reason for this is considered to be the excessive number of fallen soldiers or martyrs and the extreme loss of life in a very short period. In spite of these negative aspects, the locations of many war grave sites have been determined by detailed research by historians and the use of maps drawn during wartime. However, in these cemetery areas, approximate locations were defined for war graves and in line with this, areas were fenced off as war cemeteries. Using the same logic, an area closes to the location used as Biga War hospital during the Çanakkale War was renovated and opened to visitors as Biga War Cemetery with gravestones in certain locations. The high-resolution, non-destructive shallow geophysical method of ground-penetrating radar (GPR) has been widely used with the aim of identifying structural elements that are buried (graves, tunnels, archeological remains, etc.). In line with this, its use to research war grave sites in areas known as war cemeteries will illuminate the past and contribute to reorganizing war cemeteries according to war grave locations and providing the necessary importance and respect that war cemeteries deserve.

<title>Using theatre performance to raise the awareness of middle-school students toward hand-hygiene</title>

<description>Using theatre performance to raise the awareness of middle-school students toward hand-hygiene
Önen, Cihan; Koç, Yüksel
Present study has been conducted to investigate the effects of raising the awareness of middle-school students toward hand hygiene via using theater performances. The population of this intervention study consists of 5th and 6th graders studying at the Middle-school. Prior to using the theater performance, 15.7% of students practiced proper hand-washing technique while after the theater, the ratios escalated to 33.8%. After the intervention, there was a statistically significant increase in the ratio of respondents having emphasized the need to wash hands as shown by the demonstrated technique(p&lt;0.05). It was demonstrated that upon performing drama, entertainment and didactic scenarios integrated theater activities among middle-school students, there was a heightened level of hand-hygiene awareness toward a manifold of issues in the short term. In addition, it was detected that by teaching the proper technique students achieved to double increase their knowledge on hand hygiene.

<title>An experimental investigation on the abrasion strength of aggregate: Elazığ province calcareous aggregate</title>
<link>http://dspace.beu.edu.tr:8080/xmlui/handle/123456789/13844</link>
<description>An experimental investigation on the abrasion strength of aggregate: Elazığ province calcareous aggregate
TUNC, Esra TUGRUL
In order to produce quality concrete in our country which is located in the earthquake zone, it is necessary to ensure that the aggregate to be used is subjected to the necessary abrasion and strength tests and to be used in concrete production after being controlled in accordance with the concrete norms. Due to the geological structure of the country, there are different kinds of aggregates with different properties in and in very large quantities in Turkey. Therefore, it is of great importance to investigate the physical and mechanical properties of aggregates in our country to use them in different fields. The present study aims to determine whether or not this calcareous aggregate, which cannot be stored, is sufficient in terms of abrasion strength. This shows that the strength of the concrete produced by the said aggregate will be high. Thus, both the production of concrete with improved properties is provided and the environmental pollution is prevented. In addition, because it is aimed to use the available resources in the most efficient way, it is thought that evaluating this calcareous aggregate found in nature will contribute to the country’s economy found in nature. In the present study, the abrasion strength of the calcareous aggregate extracted from Elazığ province was investigated. The abrasion resistance of the said aggregate was investigated experimentally by changing the Los Angeles parameters under different conditions. In addition, the microstructural morphology of the existing calcareous aggregate was investigated. In this context, Scanning Electron Microscopy test was conducted using an EDX micro-analyzer. As a result of the tests, it was observed that the aggregate abrasion strength decreased with the increasing numbers of balls and revolutions. It was seen that the abrasion strength of the existing calcareous aggregate was higher than most of the related aggregates in the previous studies and it was found to be suitable for use in concrete.
